Bill has no arms, so this special device operated by the client's foot was designed and made by Technical Volunteer John. The small table can elevate from approximately 150mm to 1000mm above the floor level, it also incorporates a rotating dish that holds the client's dinner plate, enabling him to eat off the further most part of the plate.
The photo on the right shows various parts undergoing manufacture. At the bottom left hand side of the bench is part of a Gliderol door that will become the turntable. To the right is a Ford window winder motor, with a gear attached so that it will drive the turntable. In the centre of the photo you can see part of the carriage fitted with two of its four main wheels.
Brilliant use by Technical Volunteer John of existing material to make a very functional device to help a person live independently.

Sam has problems that often causes him to lose balance and fall backwards. He was using a large walk frame at school, but this was quite bulky and very limited in its use. It also did not have brakes, causing an extra possible hazard for Sam when walking or when using it for stability.
Technical Member Bill solved this problem by building this trolley which also doubles up as a handy device for Sam's activities and toys.
A very important part of the design and making of this trolley is the braking system, which consists of a height adjustable handle, when pulled backwards stops the back wheels from turning - therefore preventing Sam falling backwards. A very handy and now much safer device for young Sam.

"Thank You" Hi-Five for Technical Member Des
Young Tanya was born with spina bifida and desperately wanted to be able to ride a bike like her younger sister. Her parents had purchased a very small bike, but she was unable to sit upright on the seat and keep her feet on the rotating pedals.
Technical Member Des made mounting brackets to attach the vertical riser to the rear wheel axle and brackets that went from the riser to the rear wheel struts to stabilise the riser. The chain, front sprocket and pedals were removed and replaced by a pair of platforms for Tanya's feet. End result - a very happy little girl and a delighted Technical Member.
