Mike loves to be outdoors, do his own shopping, and access the community using his electric wheelchair. But when his feet kept falling off the footplate because it was too short his OT suggested the inventive volunteers at TADSA may be able to modify it in some way to help alleviate the problem.
TADSA technical volunteer Don put his inventive thinking cap on and recommended a customised top-up plate to extend enough so that Mike can comfortably place his feet safely without the risk of falling off. The height of the modified footrest was carefully planned to ensure correct angle in the hip, knee, ankle, and the pelvis. The extended footrest was attached so that it can be easily folded up when needed. And hey presto! Another TADSA solution – assisting life – promoting independence.
