Community Impact Volunteering Opportunities @ TADSA

TADSA is a state-wide not-for-profit, voluntary organisation.  Our purpose is to assist people with disabilities to overcome problems to independence by creating, modifying or reworking devices and equipment, including but not limited to utensils, seating, furniture. hygiene, mobility aids and other things where there is no other solution readily avaialble.

We have a range of volunteering opportunities across our Assistive Technology, Freedom Wheels, Events and Activities and Finance teams.

Freedom Wheels Coordinator

Freedom Wheels is a South Australian program where skilled staff and volunteers work closely with people, families and therapists to create customised bicycles and tricycles.  Each Freedom Wheels solution is built to the individual’s height and weight as well as physical and cognitive abilities.  The Freedom Wheels customised support accessories provide children and adults with a disability the confidence and freedom to ride.  The support accessories are easily removed for transportation and storage.

About the role

The Freedom Wheels Coordinator manages the process for all inquiries which may lead to a Freedom Wheels bike or trike order in a formal manner. These processes are controlled by the Freedom Wheels Coordinator under the oversight of the Project Manager from the initial inquiry through to project completion and delivery.  A project follow-up completes this process, ensuring that the client is totally satisfied with the resulting bike or trike.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • good phone and general communication skills
  • advancced computer skills – proficient in the use of MS products including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access Database, Powerpoint
  • available at least two days per week
  • some experience in stock control, ordering and purchasing
  • ability to multi-task
  • knowledge of bicycles/tricycles helpful
  • experience working with peole with disabilities a great advantage.

Finance Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteer Finance Officer – about the role

The volunteer will undertake the bookkeeping functions of receipts, payments, reconciliations and preparation of financial report for Board meetings. You will need a good understanding of MYOB (AccountRight).  You will work closely with the General Manager and Project Manager.

The ideal candidate will be a person who has worked as an accountant or bookkeeper for a number of years, may be retired, may be a person living with a disability, or may be someone looking to utilise their skills, knowledge and experience to assist others.  Formal qualification would be an advantage but not essential.  A DCSI Working with Children’s Clearance is required.  There is no cost to the volunteer for this and the screening process is initiated by TADSA on the volunteer’s behalf.

Accounts Receivable/Payable Volunteer – about the role

You will assist the Finance Officer with accounts receivable (creating and sending invoices, and following up to get them paid), and accounts payable (making sure invoices from suppliers are accurate, and paid in a timely manner).  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • processing account receivables and incoming payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures
  • performing day to day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, computing, posting and recording accounts receiveables’ data
  • preparing bills receivable, invoices and bank deposits.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have well developed interpersonal skills
  • have a good telephone manner
  • be able to use MYOB
  • be able to use MS Office (Word, Excel, Access Database, Powerpoint)
  • be able to give 4-8 hours a week in person at 31 Blacks Rd, Gilles Plains. (The TADSA office)
  • have fully or partially completed accounting studies or have working experience in the field
  • be able to work as part of a team
  • have attention to detail.

Events and Activities Volunteers (multiple roles, multiple regions SA)

TADSA is currently mobilizing the My Active Life project, an exciting regional SA expansion plan with goals of improving access and participation in sport and recreation for South Australians living with disability.  Being a TADSA Event/Activity Volunteer gives you an opportunity to shine as an active member of our community-based events team.  Coming in from the ground level, you will make your impact from planning through to event delivery.  Within your role you will carry out the following activities:

  • be the ‘face’ of TADSA and create awareness of our good work and services
  • sign up any interested individuals for our Assistive Technology and Freedom Wheels projects
  • assist with setting up and packing down event equipment and materials
  • marshalling
  • 1 to 1 participant support and encouragement
  • merchandise distribution and other event based tasks.

The ideal candidate may possess

  • previous experience working with people with disabilities a great advantage
  • DCSI Working with Childrens clearance (TADSA can initiate this at no cost to the volunteer)
  • valid driver’s licence
  • ability to treat everyone equally and with respect and patience
  • effective communication, comprehension and interpersoanl skills
  • sound and effective time management skills
  • possess a high level of trust, honesty and integraity and be able to maintain a professional relationship with event participants .
