Who does TADSA help?

TADSA helps people with a disability, the elderly, and their carers. TADSA is focused on solutions for what you wish to do, and are able to do. The underlying cause for your challenges is not the factor that determines whether we can help.

What does TADSA do?

TADSA helps people to do activities that would be challenging or impossible without the use of assistive equipment. TADSA either modifies equipment that is commercially available, or otherwise designs and manufactures customised equipment to suit the individual’s need.

Who does the work?

Our office administration is undertaken by two part-time employees and several volunteers. Our Project Coordinator (volunteer) supervises a highly skilled team of volunteers who undertake the project work to design and make or modify equipment to suit the specific requirement of the client.

What makes TADSA unique?

There are a number of factors. Perhaps the most important are:

  • Each project we complete is custom designed and made for the specific needs of the client.
  • Work is performed by our creative and ingenious volunteers with our focus to provide an affordable solution to our clients.

Freedom Wheels - Custom built Bikes for kids with disabilities

Therapists or allied health care professionals undertake an assessment of the child for their suitability for a modified bike under the Freedom Wheels customised bike program. Our volunteers then prepare a custom modified bike that allows the child to enjoy mobility and a form of recreation previously unavailable to them.

Do I need a referral?

No. Either the person in need of assistance, their carer or a friend or family member may approach TADSA at any time.

Is there a cost for equipment made by TADSA and bicycles from Freedom Wheels?

Yes. Clients pay for materials and equipment that TADSA / Freedom Wheels volunteers purchase. There is also an administration fee that is paid to TADSA. However, clients do not pay for the labour provided by the volunteers, and this can be an enormous saving.

Is TADSA a registered provider for the NDIS?

TADSA is registered to provide support for National Disability Insurance Scheme participants.

How are projects funded?

Under the NDIS there will be changes to the way our projects are funded and therefore the way we charge for the projects will also change.

For NDIS Clients
Our project coordinator will prepare a quote for the equipment which includes materials and service delivery costs. These items need to be identified in the client’s support plan.

For non-NDIS Clients
The only direct charge to clients is the cost of materials used and volunteer’s out of pocket expenses. With changes to State Government funding this may change.

Please let the Project Coordinator know if you have difficulty in paying for TADSA’s services so that options can be reviewed.

Are donations to TADSA tax deductible?

TADSA has Donor Gift Registration, so donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.

What skills do volunteers need?

While TADSA volunteers are, traditionally, mostly those with technical skills, we also need a wide variety of skills to assist the administration and promotion of the Association. So whatever your skills, if you would like to help, we would like to hear from you. Please give us a call.

How do I volunteer?

Please contact the TADSA office. We will ask you to complete an application form to become a member of TADSA and attend a short interview to assess your interests and suitability for a volunteer role.

How do I contact TADSA?

By phone, fax, email, post or even drop in at the office. All the details are on our contact page.

I referred a client to TADSA for modification of a 4 wheel walker to a lower height that was more appropriate for her.

I saw the client last week and was really impressed with the modifications that had been completed – the new seat and handle height has made it possible for her to use the equipment for safer mobility which in turn allows for more independence when accessing the community. This service provided by TADSA has made that possible, as there were really no other appropriate alternate equipment options available for this client.

Both the client and her family are very happy with the outcomes.

Thank you for the time and effort and quality of work regarding this referral.
