Volunteers

Making Life a TAD easier

TADSA is dedicated to helping people with disability and the aged be as independent as possible.  Without volunteers we couldn’t make this happen.

In becoming a volunteer you are required to become a member of the Association. There is no cost in becoming a volunteer. Personal Accident volunteer insurance is held and covers all TADSA volunteers whilst engaged in voluntary work on behalf of TADSA, provided always that any voluntary work is officially organised by and under the control of TADSA.

Reimbursement for agreed out-of-pocket project related expenses is provided

There are two categories of volunteer – technical and individual.

Technical volunteers design, make or modify equipment for clients where nothing commercially available is suitable, tailor-making each solution to suit the needs of the client.

Volunteers work out of their own sheds in their own time. Consequently as a technical volunteer you would need to have your own workshop and tools.  Contact us if you have questions about being a volunteer with TADSA.

Typical technical skill sets include:

  • Metalwork
  • Woodwork
  • Plastics
  • Electronics
  • Fabrics
  • Bicycle mechanics
  • Engineering (mechanical and electrical)
  • Computers
  • New technologies

Each project has a team – the client, the technical volunteer, the TADSA Project Coordinator, a health professional (if necessary) and often a carer. Each member of this team brings their skill and energy to the project, focussing on maximising the outcomes for the client.

Your ingenuity and passion to help will be rewarded by seeing your device improving another person’s quality of life.

“I am continually amazed by the resilience our clients and their carers show when dealing with the issues they face day to day. To be even a small part of making their lives easier is both gratifying and humbling…” Michael
