Freedom Wheels Bikes (for children and adults)

Freedom Wheels bikes come with a range of adaptable attachments designed to provide additional support for riders. These bikes are available in 16″, 20″, 24″, and 26” bike frame sizes.

Freedom Wheels bikes are custom assembled to the individual rider’s specific needs using some or all the following supports.

  • Outriggers for stability. Wider and stronger than training wheels, they don’t tip or lean, providing a smoother, quieter ride.
  • Ankle leg supports to provide lower limb stability.
  • Custom handlebars to give the rider the best posture and easy steering.
  • Hand mitts to grip your handlebar.
  • A towbar for you to pull the bike.
  • Rear steer (these can also be fitted with brakes for additional control).
  • Step blocks help to make mounting the bike easier.
  • Pelvic belts to increase stability and confidence.
  • Hip and thoracic fins for pelvic and trunk stability.
  • Foot cups and toe clips to keep the rider’s feet on the pedals.

All supports can be easily removed without tools and the bike frame can be transported on a normal bike rack at the back or roof of a car.

Body Cycles Trike

The Body Cycles Trike is designed for teens and adults needing extra support to ride. The trike offers additional postural support, stability and helps to build rider confidence. Body Cycles Trikes includes an extensive range of attachments which are available to each rider. Your therapist will assess and prescribe a set of supports that suit your individual needs. These supports might include:

  • Cushioned back support to provide maximum comfort, support and safety to the rider.
  • Chest pad ideal for those who have a tendency to lean forwards.
  • Adjustable handlebars can be raised and lowered, positioned in towards the riders, or away from the rider using a quick release lever. This easy movement makes it ideal for getting off and on the trike.
  • Rear steering designed to enable additional support from another individual. It allows the helper to steer from behind, ensuring both the rider and helper are facing the same direction. The steering arm can be adjusted up or down. If requested, the brake lever can be positioned on the steering arm, so the carer to apply the brake.
  • Push handle for pushing or pulling so a helper can stand close to the rider. It is telescopic and extendable.
  • Pommel seat designed to prevent the pelvis sliding forward. The pommel is designed so the rider can easily move sideways during transfers on and off the cycle.

A car trailer is available as an optional extra for transporting.

Frame Runner

The RAD “Frame Runner” is an adaptive mobility device and a growing global sport. Frame Running (also known as Race Running) is an innovative recreation/sport for people with impaired balance preventing them from being able to run unaided. A Frame Runner trike is a custom built three-wheeled frame where the runner is fully supported by a saddle and leans against a chest support, propelling themselves forward by the feet (one or both), while using the hands and/or arms to steer.

Participating in Frame Running provides everyone the freedom to move and run in a supported and balanced way without a walker, wheelchair or similar device. Frame Running is a liberating sport and running frames are frequently used by children and adults with cerebral palsy (CP), Parkinson’s, stroke, spinal cord injuries (SCI), muscular dystrophy, or general balance and mobility challenges to propel themselves on their own and engage their major muscle groups.
