Frequently Asked Questions FAQs

TADSA helps people living with disability and age-related challenges of all ages, and their carers. At TADSA we focus on developing solutions to those challenges. The underlying cause of your challenge is not a factor in determining whether we can help.

TADSA helps people to do activities that would be challenging or impossible without the use of assistive equipment. TADSA either modifies equipment that is commercially available, or otherwise designs and manufactures customised equipment to suit the individual’s need.

TADSA is governed by a Board of Directors. The business administration is undertaken by one part time general manager. TADSA’s customisation service is managed by a Project Coordinator (volunteer) who supervises a highly skilled team of 37 technical volunteers who undertake the project work to design and make or modify equipment to suit the specific requirement of the client.

There are a number of factors. Perhaps the most important are:

  • that each project is custom designed and made for the specific needs of the client.
  • The solutions we create are made by TADSA’s creative and ingenious volunteers who have techincal skills, qualifications and experience in engineering, mechanics, woodworking, electronics, plastics, and electrics.

Therapists or allied health care professionals undertake an assessment of the child for their suitability for a modified bike under the Freedom Wheels customised bike program. Our volunteers then prepare a custom modified bike that allows the child to enjoy mobility and a form of recreation previously unavailable to them.

No. We accept inquiries for technical assistance and the freedom wheels program from the person in need, their carer or a friend or family member may approach TADSA at any time. Your allied health professional may also wish to make an inquiry on your behalf. We encourage completion of the technical assistance project inquiry form online.

A quote is prepared for acceptance by the client prior to the project being started. Clients (or their funder) will recieve an invoice for volunteers out of pocket expenses, costs of materials purchased for the project, mileage incurred by the volunteer and a service charge.

TADSA is registered to provide support for National Disability Insurance Scheme participants.

TADSA has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status meaning donations of $2 and over are tax deductible for the donor.

TADSA technical volunteers are people with technical skills and experience. We also need a wide variety of skills to assist the administration and promotion of the Association. So whatever your skills, if you would like to help, we would like to hear from you. Please give us a call.

Please contact the TADSA office. We will ask you to complete an application form to become a member of TADSA and attend a short interview to assess your interests and suitability for a volunteer role. All volunteers require Working with Children’s Clearance.

Complete the project inquiry form online or call us by phone, email, post or even drop in at the office. All the details are on our contact page.
