Following a recent request submitted through our Technical Projects Inquiry Form, an occupational therapist (OT) reached out on behalf of a client living with achondroplasia. The client’s existing shower stool—originally just 28cm high—had deteriorated over time and required replacement. However, after extensive searching online and through multiple suppliers, the OT found that locating a commercially available shower stool of this height was nearly impossible.
Recognising the urgency and importance of the request, she contacted TADSA for support.
Our skilled volunteer, Glen, promptly assessed the stool and devised a practical, client‑focused solution. He carefully shortened each leg of the existing stool by 230mm, adjusted the height sleeve, and re‑drilled the locking pin holes to maintain structural integrity and safety. The project was finished with a small paint touch‑up—restoring both function and appearance.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful, customised modifications can make a meaningful difference in daily living. Through close collaboration with healthcare professionals and the expertise of our volunteers, TADSA continues to deliver tailored solutions that enhance independence, accessibility, and quality of life for the people we serve.
