Empowered by TADSA, the ILC funded project ‘My Active Life’ (MAL) has reached a significant milestone by engaging over 1000 people with disability in SA. The national project with its collective goal of developing pathways for children and adults with disability to participate in sport and recreation has touched the lives of communities especially in regional SA, wielding incredible power since its inception.
The project initiatives commenced in April 2021 with our first ever ‘Ready Set Ride’ accessible bike and trike ride event in Mount Barker. Our hard work paved way for a remarkable chain of good work thereafter. MAL expanded into four geographical locations, delivering ‘active’ endeavors in Port Lincoln, Whyalla, the Riverland, Kadina and to SA’s southern tip of Mount Gambier, Naracoorte and then to Kangaroo Island.
The wide variety of activities included accessible trike and bike rides, inclusive basketball, swimming, gym and dance programs, equine therapy, art and craft, pottery making and much more. With every activity delivered free of charge for every participant, the programs and events we built in ELCs, schools, community groups and with the wider public have inspired people from all walks of life to overcome many barriers and realize their full potential. The breadth of outcomes and individual success stories keep multiplying as MAL keeps gaining momentum to enhance meaningful engagement, social inclusion, physical wellbeing with more encounters of infinite happiness.
